Mold and mildew on tile grout: Is it normal? Is it harmful? Should you be concerned?
First, I want to challenge the notion that “every bathroom has mildew” and that “it’s not harmful.” This simply isn’t true. My own bathrooms don’t have mildew, and the presence of these dark spots often indicates higher-than-normal humidity levels that require attention.
In this video I wanted to clear up some misconceptions and discuss:
- Why bathroom mold/mildew might be the “tip of the iceberg” of something else
- How you can check if it is a problem
- How to properly check humidity levels in your home
- What you want to avoid in your bathroom ventilation
- What humidity percentages are acceptable
Remember, while you shouldn’t panic if you spot mold on your grout, you should definitely pay attention. These spots could indicate other problems elsewhere in your home.
