Hurricane Recovery Steps To Manage Water Damage and Mold

How To Safely Begin Your Hurricane Recovery Clean Up

The impact of Hurricane Helene is beyond what any of us could’ve imagined. Millions are left without homes or homes that have extensive structural damage, water damage and mold to come…

I did a quick livestream video this past week to share the essential steps that those affected by the storm need to take post-hurricane, to protect their homes and belongings.

We had originally planned to go live with R. David Sweet; water mitigation expert at MIT Consulting who is highly experienced in mold remediation and also insurance (He is a former adjuster and expert witness). Unfortunately he was called out on an emergency and will have to join us another time. Find his contact info below.

Here are the hurricane recovery topics I touch on in this video:

  • Immediate safety steps
  • What wet belongings to keep and what needs to be throw away
  • Who to call (and who to watch out for)
  • Structural integrity : Who should help.
  • What remediators do and what they do NOT do.
  • Cleaning: What not to use / Sprays, cover-ups that don’t work.
  • Drying – This will take weeks to months, not days. DRY is a number!
